Reporting to: Managing Director and VP Client: The Cologne based company has developed a human cell-based expression system whose superior benefits are being offered to Contract Research and Manufacturing Organizations (CRO´s, CMO´s), BioTechs and Pharmaceutical companies all over the world. Various business models exist: custom cell line development and protein production, out-licensing of platform technology, inhouse early-stage pipeline of difficult to express proteins. With its about 25 highly skilled professionals located both in Germany and USA, the company benefits from the growing number of proteins developed for therapeutic use and the growing need for vaccines. Its expression system allows for much improved yields and timelines, human-like post-translational modifications, growth in serum-free chemically defined medium. In many ways does the company’s technology portfolio bypass the many bottlenecks for today’s protein production. The company in its 8th year is now rapidly expanding into specific commercial applications of its technology platform and is therefore in need of various professionals managing the cell line services, bioprocessing and up-scaling (protein fermentation) and customer interaction. Position: VP Development Services – Human Cell Lines Tasks: - The Cologne based individual covers all the development aspects of the company’s projects with clients and of the in-house projects. Specifically, this manager:
- helps shaping all activities in product & application development and specifically in process development projects
- recognizes early on likely issues and searches for solutions
- represents the development function of the company as a member of the various project teams with clients and inside
- carries the responsibility for a successful and timely supply of the cell lines or the products and the proper documentation. Such documentation may be required for regulatory approval (NDA / IMPDs, MAA/BLAs). This VP is being assisted by the Customer Support, the Cell Line Services and the BioProcess and Scale up Teams.
- carries the responsibility to make convincing project proposals to potential clients and see that all promises be delivered on.
Profile: - Degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Protein Chemistry or related science
- Solid background skills regarding protein expression, fermentation & process sciences, up-scaling for biologics
- Several years of job experience in the area of protein production of biopharmaceuticals and specifically cell line optimization; ideally for a CMO.
- Several years of team work, proven experience in managing small and effective teams and budgets
- Experience in Regulatory Affairs for CMC and its documentation; Familiarity with GLP / GMP and DIN ISO 9000/13000, respectively.
- Convincing personality, strong communication skills and good team interaction
- Quick grasp on the issues and entrepreneurial attitude
- Fluency in English to address the international challenges, German a nice to have
- Experience overseas advantageous but no prerequisite

Position: Scientist Cell Line / Cell Culture Development – Human Cell Lines Tasks: - Project Management (planning, coordination, follow up)
- leadership of teams developing cell lines consisting of both technicians and junior scientists
- close interaction with Science Officer, Development and Management Board
- independent cooperation with internal and external development partners
- independent management of client projects, constant feedback and interaction with clients
- attending technical seminars, literature & patent search
- assistance with grant applications
- readiness to travel within Europe and overseas
Profile: - Degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Protein Chemistry or related science
- Solid background skills regarding protein expression, fermentation & process sciences, specifically in cell culture development, transfection, transduction, transient and stable. Experience with manufacturing pre-clinical material and familiarity with process steps from cell line to animal studies.
- Several years of job experience in the area of cell line optimization
- Several years of team work, proven experience in managing small and effective teams and budgets
- Convincing personality, strong communication skills and good team interaction
- Quick grasp on the issues and entrepreneurial attitude

Position: Senior Scientist Fermentation – BioProcess and Scale-Up Tasks: - Project Management (planning, coordination, follow up)
- leadership of fermentation and process development teams consisting of both technicians and junior scientists
- close interaction with Science Officer, Development and Management Board
- independent cooperation with internal and external development partners
- independent management of client projects, constant feedback and interaction with clients
- attending technical seminars, literature & patent search
- assistance with grant applications
- readiness to travel within Europe and overseas
Profile: - PhD in one of the Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry) with solid molecular & cell biology backgrounds and experience with stable and transient protein expression
- minimum of 3 years work experience in both academia and industry in a senior scientist capacity
- experience with managing teams of researchers and running "your own shop" independently and with clear goals
- high degree of flexibility and responsibility
- Ideally, experience in client handling both domestic and foreign, English fluency
