The Client..

is a Berlin area based biotechnology company active in oncogenomics and clinical oncology diagnostics. The company is developing novel prognostic gene signatures for predicting outcome and drug response in cancer patients. The company exists since …. and has over the years established a sizeable development team and various support functions.

It is now in the process of launching its first commercial product and service in predictive blood-based colorectal cancer (CRC). Its screening test showed a consistently high sensitivity of 90 percent for all four cancer stages (including early stages), and a specificity of 88 percent. It is highly competitive and addresses an unmet medical need. Starting in Germany with a central service laboratory, the plan is to soon roll out the business model across Europe.

 

The Task…

is to install such central routine laboratory providing high throughput Colorectal Cancer Screening for Germany: blood sample collection, logistics, testing procedures, readouts, documentation and data management need to be organized in a highly efficient and reliable manner, compliant with current regulatory requirements. The Client in a second step wishes to install similar infrastructures in other European markets.

The task requires experienced specialists in laboratory medicine. In fact, the Client thinks of 2 such specialists, one with a laboratory management focus (a certified “Laborfacharzt”) and one with a more Business Development focus. Both positions are highly visible within the organization as they will create the first significant business for our Client and serve to proof its medical and commercial concepts.

 

Qualification:

• Certified Specialist in Laboratory Medicine (e.g. “approbierter Laborfacharzt”)
• Experience in managing a routine laboratory in clinical diagnostics, ideally in having built such lab and related processes from scratch
• Familiarity with current German and ideally other European regulations
• Affinity with novel testing procedures
• Drive to shape an organization & its processes, flexibility
